Home Buyer’s Guide, Part 6: Moving In
The moment where preparation becomes home.
Reaching the final stage of your home purchase is an achievement worth celebrating. You have navigated decisions, inspections, negotiations and countless details. Now the finish line is in sight. Although this phase is filled with excitement, there are still a few important final steps that ensure your transition is smooth and fully supported.
At the Stephen Haw Group, we help you close with confidence so your first moments in your new home feel effortless and memorable.
The Final Walk Through
A day before closing, or sometimes the morning of, you will complete your final walk through of the property. This step is simple but essential. You will confirm that:
- The home is in the same condition as when you last visited
- All agreed upon repairs have been completed
- No unwanted items were left behind
- Everything that was included in the purchase is still present and functional
This is your moment to make sure the home is ready for you, exactly as promised.
Setting Up Home Services and Utilities
To make your move seamless, we provide you with a list of utility providers and recommended service contacts. This includes electricity, water, gas, internet, waste services and any additional home essentials.
Activating these accounts as soon as closing occurs ensures that your first night in your new home feels comfortable and fully supported.
Be Prepared for Last Minute Details
Even with careful preparation, small surprises can occur. A minor repair may be needed, a fixture might not function correctly or a last minute question may arise. If anything unexpected happens, you are not alone. We have guided clients through these moments for decades, and we are ready to assist quickly and calmly.
Unexpected issues do not need to create stress. They simply become another part of the journey that we help you solve with clarity and ease.
Closing Day
Closing is the official completion of your purchase. It is the moment when ownership transfers and the home becomes yours.
At closing, the agent will provide a complete settlement statement that details every financial aspect of the transaction. You and the seller will sign this document, along with the closing agent. If you are financing the home, you will also sign your loan documents.
If you cannot attend closing in person, accommodations can often be made with advance notice.
When bringing funds to closing, you may wire the amount directly to the closing agent’s escrow account or bring a certified bank check for the final total listed on the settlement statement.
Before you leave, the seller will provide the keys, access codes, garage remotes and any other important information about the property. This is the moment your new chapter officially begins.
