Maintaining Your Backyard

realestate

Backyards are especially open for remodeling as there are less structural concerns. You don’t have to worry about moving walls, lifting foundations, insulation, etc. (unless you want to get fancy). Therefore, when buying a house, the backyard doesn’t have to be perfect. Be fine with remodeling.

Maintenance/upkeep is something to think about. If you are someone who wants to put a lot of time into upkeep, then by all means go wild. Get real grass, have intricate patterns, have a lot of trees and plants, be ready to pull weeds and blow leaves. Maintaining these things can be fun for people, but a chore for others.

If you don’t want to worry about maintenance, consider getting mostly stone/brick/cement and grab some easy-to-clean outdoor furniture. Remember that any gaps in the stonework can allow weeds to grow, so a big flat surface can be best. You don’t have to mow the lawn regularly, you won’t have to blow leaves as often, etc. You can still have a stunning backyard with a very low-maintenance design. Furniture, structures, lighting, stone and pebble formations; these are just some ideas of ways to make a varied and beautiful yard with little upkeep required. If you really want grass, you can use astroturf/fake grass.

Googling is a great way to search for backyard ideas. It’s easy to use art programs like photoshop or Paint to concept layouts and what not.
